Case Studies
Here are a few examples of projects where I’ve helped teams fix messy data setups, build scalable Azure-based platforms, and roll out Power BI dashboards that actually support day-to-day decision-making. Each project was focused, practical, and delivered with the business in mind — no overengineering, no unnecessary costs.

Austability

Sector: Defence / Government Contracting
Duration: 2-month contract (2025)
Technologies Used: Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics 365
Challenge
Austability had recently completed a Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementation and needed a clear, strategic view across its international subsidiaries. Financial and operational data was technically available, but inaccessible and inconsistent, leaving leadership without the insight needed to manage performance at group level.

Solution
I came in on a 2-month contract to design and deliver a suite of Power BI dashboards that would give senior stakeholders visibility over core metrics. I worked with data pulled from Dynamics 365 into Microsoft Fabric, then modelled it for use in Power BI. The dashboards covered key financial and operational areas, enabling high-level and drill-down analysis across global business units.

Impact
The initial set of dashboards provided the company’s first strategic reporting layer across its international subsidiaries. With Dynamics 365 now being rolled out to further entities, and historical data still being integrated, Austability is planning to bring me back in for the next phase of Power BI development as their data maturity grows.

Data2Action consultancy for an Education client
Sector: Education (Multi-Academy Trust)
Duration: 4-month contract (2024)
Technologies Used: SQL, Power BI

Challenge
The Trust was struggling to gain insight across its network of primary and secondary schools. Pupil absence, attainment data, and teacher assessments were hard to access and compare. The leadership team lacked visibility and had no way to track issues or trends across schools.

Solution
Working through Data2Action, I developed a suite of Power BI dashboards for day-to-day operations and strategic oversight. The dashboards covered everything from attendance to academic performance and provided both summary and detailed views for use by leadership and school staff.

Impact
The dashboards helped the Trust quickly identify areas for improvement across its schools. Leadership gained a clear, consistent view for the first time, thus enabling faster, data-driven decisions around interventions, resource allocation, and performance planning.

AVOVE UK

Sector: Utilities & Infrastructure
Duration: 3-month contract (2024)
Technologies Used: Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, Power BI
Challenge
Avove was struggling to get a grip on its data. Reporting processes were highly manual, sources were inconsistent and unstructured, and the business had no scalable way to onboard future clients or integrate upcoming systems.

Solution
I came in as a Data Consultant to stabilise and modernise their data environment. After conducting a full business-wide analysis, I mapped key processes and performed a detailed gap analysis of their infrastructure and reporting needs. I then designed and built an Azure-based data platform using Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, and Azure SQL Database. I implemented data quality checks and designed the system with governance and future expansion in mind.

Impact
Avove now has a clean, consistent, and scalable data platform that supports business reporting and client onboarding. The platform is designed to grow with the business and gives them the confidence to scale up without data bottlenecks. My proactive, independent approach saved the client significant overhead in BA and PM time.

Rebound Electronics
Sector: B2B Electronics Distribution
Duration: 2023–2024
Technologies Used: Snowflake, dbt, SQL, Power BI

Challenge
Rebound Electronics, operating across 22 countries, lacked centralised reporting and had no consistent view of sales performance, customer behaviour, or quote conversion. Data was siloed, manually processed, and difficult to trust, leaving decision-makers without reliable insight.

Solution
I joined as their Data Manager and took full ownership of developing and implementing a new data strategy from the ground up. I scouted and secured a business partner to provision the Snowflake environment, then personally designed the end-to-end data model and data marts. Using Snowflake and dbt, I built robust data pipelines and oversaw governance and data quality. I also led all stakeholder workshops, captured requirements, defined KPIs, and managed a data visualisation specialist to deliver Power BI dashboards for senior leaders and the sales team.

Impact
The dashboards gave Rebound’s sales team a clear, actionable view of their pipeline for the first time, helping them prioritise follow-ups, manage quotes more effectively, and strengthen customer relationships. Sales managers gained visibility over team activity and engagement. Within the first month of go-live, quote conversion increased by 30%, directly tied to improved responsiveness and workload management.

PureGym

Sector: Health & Fitness / Facilities Management
Duration: 2021–2023
Technologies Used: Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Python, Power BI
Challenge
PureGym’s Facilities Management (FM) team had no consistent way of tracking costs, performance, or contractor efficiency across their UK-wide network of gyms. The data they had was locked in ERP systems and XML files, with most analysis done manually in Excel. Supplier performance couldn’t be measured accurately, and the FM budget was running over by six figures.

Solution
I joined as FM Data Insights Manager to overhaul their approach to data. I built a new Azure-based data warehouse from scratch, writing Python scripts to extract and reformat ERP data delivered in raw XML. I created automated data flows and integrated this with Power BI to produce a complete reporting environment for FM operations. Alongside the technical work, I led workshops, trained internal teams on Power BI, and provided deep-dive analysis for strategic decision-making.

Impact
My work delivered tangible, measurable results by building dashboards that enabled daily cost, performance, and issue tracking across sites:
-
Reversed a £150K overspend to a £100K underspend — a £250K swing
-
Improved supplier KPIs by 80%
Led diversity and inclusion training within the FM team and served as an LGBTQIA+ network ambassador for the entire organisation.

British Car Auctions (BCA)
Sector: Automotive
Duration: 2018-2021
Technologies Used: SQL, Power BI, QlikView

Challenge
The logistics branch of BCA was struggling with team morale and efficiency after company-wide policy changes. Reporting was heavily reliant on Excel, and data teams were siloed with limited visibility into real-time operations. Clients like Volkswagen, BMW, and Motability lacked access to up-to-date KPIs, and account managers were wasting hours each week on manual updates.

Solution
I rebuilt and led the data team in logistics, both structurally and technically. I recruited and mentored analysts, re-energised the team, and introduced new tools and frameworks. I designed and implemented an internal Power BI reporting environment that gave near real-time visibility into operational metrics. I also developed an external QlikView dashboard for clients to track progress and KPIs directly, dramatically reducing the load on account managers. I collaborated closely with the Data Management team to build a central data warehouse, designing schemas and handling mapping and cleansing.

Impact
The internal dashboards allowed planners to resolve issues before they escalated, improving delivery accuracy and reducing costs. Externally, clients had 24/7 access to accurate updates, improving transparency and trust. BCA’s data maturity improved significantly, and the dashboards became embedded in both internal workflows and client relationships.
